The ceremonial gown of the University was created by the University’s Byzantinologists’ Committee in collaboration with Antonis Fokas, costume designer at the National Theatre of Greece, and it was influenced by the gown of the faculty at the University of Constantinople in the 11th century AD. One of the first gowns worn in official ceremonies in 1954 belonged to Georgios Kourmoulis, Philosophy School Linguistics professor and Rector. Donated by Zacharoula Kourmouli.
